How do I donate to the library, and what items do you accept?

If you would like to make a donation in honor of a loved one, please see our information on memorial donations.

We accept donations of used books, audiobooks on CD, and DVDs only.
Donations should be in good condition, with no signs of mold, smoke, or other damage. We are not able to accept magazines, games, or other items. We will supply a tax donation letter upon request.

Donations are sorted and moved to their next destination within 1-2 business days. We do not keep an inventory of donated used books at any of our libraries. Please check and recheck your boxes before delivery to us to ensure you are not donating any family heirlooms!

Due to the costs and labor involved with making individual books ready for public use, the donated books that we receive are not added to the library's current circulating collection. Rather, we have two viable venues for selling these books: either via online sales with a secondary vendor or directly through our annual library book sale. Both of these venues help our library system gain some additional funding for new library books!

Our libraries have limited space to accept donations, which are then transported to our Library Administration Building for processing.

If you have multiple boxes of books to donate, please deliver them directly to our Library Administration Building Monday-Friday 9 AM to 4 PM:

4020 Carya Drive
Raleigh 27610 (map).

If you call ahead, we can have staff ready to assist with unloading. Call 919-250-3971 to arrange a drop off.
