WCPL's 2021 Book Sale canceled

In the Spring of 2020 Public Health recommended canceling large events as a response to the COVID-19 crisis.  As such, Wake County Public Libraries canceled the annual book sale scheduled for May 2020. During the same timeframe, to address revenue shortfalls, all Wake County departments were required to identify a 2% reduction for the FY21 budget (July 2020-June 2021). WCPL met this expectation by transitioning the book sale to the online vendor Thriftbooks because it was more cost-effective to contract with a secondary vendor to manage/sell donated and discarded books.  The vendor and WCPL have a profit-sharing agreement and the Library no longer has to incur the cost of the staffing, equipping, and leasing a building for the annual book sale.   Books acquired by the secondary vendor are available for purchase 24/7. If you are interested in purchasing books donated or discarded from WCPL, we encourage you to visit Thriftbooks.com.
