How do I donate to the library, and what items do you accept?

If you are looking to donate a book in honor of a loved one, please see our information on memorial donations.

WCPL accepts donations of your gently used books, and we will supply a tax donation letter. We are unable to accept magazines, cassettes, tapes or records.

Donations should be in good condition, with no signs of mold or smoke damage. Please note that in order to keep up with volume, all gift books are sorted and moved to their next destination within 1-2 business days. We do not keep an inventory of donated used books at any of our libraries. Please check and recheck your boxes before delivery to us to ensure you are not donating any family heirlooms!

Because many donations have older publication dates, the majority of gift books do not get added to our current circulating collection. Rather, we have two viable venues where selling these books - either via a online secondary vendor or directly via our regular library book sale - helps our library system gain some additional funding for new library books.

Our libraries have limited space to accept donations, which are then transported to our Library Administration Building for processing.

If you have multiple boxes of books to donate, please consider a direct delivery to our Library Administration Building at 4020 Carya Drive, Raleigh 27610 (map). We can have staff assist with unloading, etc. if you call ahead during drop off hours of Monday - Friday 9am to 4pm. Call 919-250-3971 to arrange a drop off.
